provenance, provenience
Provenance (pronounced with the stress on the first syllable) is the BrE word, and provenience (pronounced pro-vee-ni-ǝns) its AmE equivalent, meaning ‘place of origin of a manuscript, work of art, etc.’ and in more general applications.
